bio
Growing up in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Nigam began his music studies at age 6 by singing along with Casey Kasem’s “American Top 40” radio show every Sunday morning. In middle school his obsession moved to the idea of playing guitar, but since one of his best friends played drums and another guitar, they convinced him to play bass instead. Starting at age 13 Nigam played in various rock and jazz groups in the suburbs of Boston, picking up a couple of awards-- and several noise complaints-- along the way.
In 1993, Nigam began studying at New York University with internationally renowned bassist Mike Richmond and received a Bachelor of Music in 1997, with a concentration in Jazz Performance & Composition.
In the mid-nineties, Nigam began working in a new field known as the “World Wide Web”. Despite the grumblings from many of his friends that this new-fangled “Interweb thing” would never have any useful application, Nigam decided to stick with it for a while. He quickly went from HTML site-builder to interactive multimedia developer, using the latest web & multimedia technologies of the day ranging from DHTML to Flash to PHP.
Since the late 90’s, Nigam has had various sojourns ranging from mortgage banking to country music. More recently he has been working on a series of orchestral arrangements of 20th Century American Standards as well as composing a symphony for full orchestra. Nigam has also continued his work with Adobe Flash & ActionScript, with an eye towards integrating rich media user interfaces with the world of entertainment and social networking.
Other than music and rich multimedia, Nigam’s other obsessions include all things NFL, the History Channel, science fiction and speed chess. He lives in Jersey City, NJ with his wife Heidi and his large screen HDTV.
